Saw this article, “Retire? Forget About It,” at Entrepreneur.com recently.  In the past ten years, the highest rate of entrepreneurial activity belongs to those in the 55 to 64 age demographic according to the Kauffman Foundation.

One theme running through all the businesses profiled in this article is that close attention to the basics of business, including sound financial management, is the key to having a successful business. Many of these retirees opened businesses that weren’t in the field they had spent their first careers, but rather they capitalized on their business knowledge and skills to make a business in a new field work for them.

If you are retiring soon, consider starting a business as your second career!
